Activities
At What the Finland, we believe that integration, employment, and wellbeing are deeply human processes — and that real change starts when we meet each other with honesty, dignity, and care. That’s why many of our activities begin with peer support: one-on-one and group-based guidance provided by people who have themselves built a life in Finland. Our peer supporters bring lived experience, cultural insight, and emotional understanding to those navigating new beginnings, from learning the language and finding work to maintaining mental wellbeing in unfamiliar systems.
But our work doesn’t stop there.
Through our We Network International WENI platform, we create space for meaningful participation, leadership, and cross-cultural cooperation. WENI connects newcomers and locals in building community-based solutions to shared challenges, from youth marginalization to climate resilience. We organize seminars, workshops, and civic labs on themes such as Finnish work culture, mental health, entrepreneurship, and resilience. Always centering inclusion, trust, and action.
We also explore tools from the Lean Startup world to help participants test ideas, co-create new initiatives, and grow projects that respond to real needs. Whether it’s a new social service, a campaign for change, or a community business, we support people in moving from lived experience to practical impact.
At the core of What the Finland is this: no one should have to go through the process alone — and no one should be seen only as a recipient of help. We believe in peer-to-peer learning, in working across boundaries, and in building platforms where people can lead, shape, and innovate together.
Because when trust and agency grow, so does the power to create a more just, connected, and hopeful society.
